Sutter County Code Chapter 600, as amended by Ordinance 1742 in February 2026, adopts the 2025 California Fire Code for the unincorporated county. Section 600-250 lets the County Fire Services Manager clear land, or order it cleared, of dry grass, stubble, brush, rubbish, litter and other flammable material that creates a fire hazard. It also applies the state Health and Safety Code's weed-abatement procedure. The ordinance sets no fixed clearance width. The County Fire Services Manager and fire district chiefs enforce it, and violations are infractions: up to $100 for a first violation, $200 for a second within a year, and $500 for each further one. When no other time is specified, each 10-day period a violation continues counts as a separate offense.

Local rules and deadlines
The county’s fire rules are in Chapter 600 of the county code, which Ordinance 1742 rewrote in February 2026 to adopt the 2025 California Fire Code. Section 600-250 lets the County Fire Services Manager clear, or order cleared, dry grass, stubble, brush, rubbish and litter that creates a fire hazard, using the state weed-abatement procedure. The chapter sets no fixed clearance width or annual deadline. Violations are infractions: up to $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second within a year, and $500 after that. Each 10-day period a condition continues can count as a new offense, and the county can still force removal.
